Arsenal defender Andre Santos has joined
Brazilian
club Flamengo on a two-year deal. The 30-year-old left-back, who has won 24 caps for
his country Brazil, had previously been on loan at
Gremio. However, he now makes a permanent switch back to
his homeland to play for Flamengo where he once
had a loan spell during the 2005-06 season. The Rio de Janeiro-based club have taken Santos on
a free transfer, after successfully completing a
medical on Thursday. Santos joined Arsenal from Turkish club Fenerbahce
for a reported £7m in August 2011 but played his
final game - as a substitute - for the Gunners against
Liverpool in January 2013. Less than two weeks later he headed back to Brazil
to join Gremio on loan. Flamengo are managed by Mano Menezes, whom
Santos played under during his stint in charge of the
Brazil national team.
